The Boyz decided to change tack for the New Year, instead of heading off to the city in search of a hatted restaurant we ventured into the suburbs to find our new favourite steak restaurant.
Located at St Ives, The BoVine Brasserie brings an elegant, family-friendly steakhouse dining experience to Sydney's North Shore. Hidden in a small local shopping centre in the suburb of ST Ives we weren’t sure what to expect. Don’t judge a book by its cover is the first thing that comes to mind walking into the restaurant, very unassuming not flashy.

Once seated we were greeted by our friendly waiter, the fact that the restaurant was BYO was a big plus, he offered red wine glasses  with or without a stem, a first for us very unexpected. We all agreed that the ambiance was a bit lacking but was made up by the excellent and friendly service received from our waiter.

Starters
We ordered three starters to share, seared kangaroo loin, salt and pepper calamari and boerewors sausages. The kangaroo was the standout dish; the whole table agreed that this has been the best starter that we’ve had so far. The other two dishes were cooked well.

Mains
The selection of cuts was good, T-Bone, Cape Grim scotch fillet, Rib eye on the bone, Tenderloin fillet. The meat was cooked to our liking with some mixed feeling on the tastes of the different cuts. The stand out cut was the Tenderloin Fillet and at $51.00 for 300g good value.

Sides
There was a good selection of sides, roasted pumpkin with flaxseed, corncobs and a few others, we decided to go for the onion rings and steamed greens.

Service
The service we received was outstanding; our waiter was attentive and friendly. Being BYO he kept our glasses full. All our meals were served the way we ordered and arrived together.

Verdict
We all agreed that it was a very enjoyable evening, the owner and chef spend some time with us at the end of the evening telling us about how he started the restaurant and the ups and downs of the industry. Given its location, it was a surprisingly good evening and I would have no hesitation referring it to my friends.
