The SteakBoyz started 2019 at Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse in midtown Manhattan. A former bank that has been converted into a three story restaurant with impressive floor to ceiling windows throughout.
The appetizers were a bit underwhelming, the thick cut bacon couldn’t hold a candle to last year winner Delmonico’s. We moved onto the main course and Instead of waiting 2 hours for their 32 oz. signature Double eagle bone in ribeye, we opted for the tomahawk ribeye and the prime porterhouse. The steaks were good but not as impressive as many of the other steakhouses we have visited. We also enjoyed a selection of sides; the massive tower of onion rings was the standout of the bunch. Dessert featured a decadent six layer lemon cake, a warm banana bread pudding as well as the surprisingly tasty butter cake accompanied by whipped cream and caramel sauce. Overall the ambiance and service were more impressive than the meal; the value was surprisingly good especially for what is known as a very pricey establishment.
