With Delmonico’s Steak House, the Steakboyz had the last of the ‘Old School” NYC Steakhouses left to sample, we went in with high expectations…that were exceeded! Looking into the long history of Delmonico’s yields some fun facts titbits. Founded in 1837 it was the first fine dining restaurant in the USA that also created the signature dishes Eggs Benedict, Baked Alaska, Lobster Newburg and Chicken A la Keene, and The Wedge Salad. Delmonico’s was also the first American restaurant to allow patrons to order from a menu а la carte. Celebrity guests include the likes of Mark Twain, Teddy Roosevelt, and the Delmonico's potatoes, mashed potatoes covered in cheese and breadcrumbs, were a favourite of Abraham Lincoln.
Now, to be fair, none of that matters without quality steak. And there, Delmonico’s really delivers! With the highest rating going to the perfectly charred Delmonico steak (wet aged), we thoroughly enjoyed their signature cut. We also enjoyed their tomahawk (dry aged) and sides but the surprise item was the bacon. If you have one thing at Delmonico’s its Chef Billy Oliva’s succulent bacon. We learned of his two day preparation during a surprise visit from the chef and learned more about his meat preparation touring an impromptu tour. The experience we enjoyed at Delmonico’s was exactly what you would want from a Steakhouse - exceptional food, unique cuts and preps, signature dishes and VIP service and attention. Delmonico’s won 2018 hands down and the return for the “Winner Dinner” only solidified our opinion. Congrats to Check Billy and all the makes Delmonico’s a well-deserved NYC staple.
