The Hussar Grill in Green Point is easy to miss; tucked away between delis and shops. But miss it at your peril. It is no surprise this was our fifth outing to the successful group of steakhouses, and it looks to be the best of the lot. It’s like walking into a cosy, old library – a crackling fire blazing, and the walls stuffed with books and vintage photographs. Our waitress and the manager were very friendly, and made us feel welcome. If you don’t know - they don’t charge corkage, so you’re in for a value meal. But enough about that. As per usual, our table was decked out with olives, fried potato crisps and sliced biltong to snack on. For starters, we ordered some plates of hog ribs which were so lip-smacking good I felt like licking the plate. Our steak orders varied from fillets, to sirloins-on-the bone, and some house specialties (try the Chateaubriand, topped with brandy, flambéed and served with Béarnaise sauce). As usual for a large table of fourteen, not all meals and sides arrived together, but otherwise double thumbs up from all round the table. Hussar Grill is a solid steakhouse, which serves top-quality aged beef. No complaints on grilling – all our steaks were well basted and excellently grilled. The fries were perfectly cooked, and accompanied by creamy spinach and butternut. The famous steakhouse is the benchmark for local grill houses, and the Green Point branch proved to be numero uno. It’s no surprise these guys have been around for 50 years, and they get a gold medal in our books. We will no doubt return in the near future… Overall: 7.6 (average of scores) Steak: 8.2 Sides: 7.7 Service: 6.8 Value: 7.3 107A Main Road, Green Point +27 21 433 2081 [email protected] www.hussargrill.co.za
