London Steak Boyz meeting no.6 took place in Feb 2017 at Mash, just off Piccadilly. Mash’s stake (excuse the pun) to fame is to have imported the ‘Real American Steakhouse’ tradition, namely large steaks cut from some of the best cattle in the world, to the UK. It was time for Steak Boyz to put that theory to the test.
The table was booked for 19h30. The boyz first met for some pre-drinks festivities before heading to Mash where we were welcomed to the venue by the hosts. With a short pit stop at the bar for a round of drinks, the 6 Boyz were ushered to our round table. FOOD Mash did not disappoint right off the bat. There was a great selection of starters, including Oysters, seared Carpaccio, steak tartar, Serrano ham and croquettes, more than enough to keep us going until the mains arrived. All starters were very good-sized portions and very tasty. Included with the starters was a thinly sliced Wagyu beef entree to share for the table. The Wagyu flavour and tenderness were exceptional, but unfortunately so was the price. For mains there was a great selection of steaks from all over the world including Japanese Wagyu beef cut, a selection of tenderloin, sirloin and NY Strip from Denmark, USA ,Australia, Uruguay and Britain. The majority of the guys chose the 400g Rib-eye done medium/medium rare with 2 others sharing an 800g Porterhouse. The steaks were cooked to perfection and full of flavour with minimal added salt or pepper required. Sides were shared amongst the table and included chips, mac and cheese, chilli cheese balls with bacon bits and all lived up to our expectations. SERVICE The waiter was very attentive and knowledgeable and new exactly who ordered what which was probably helped by the fact that we were a smaller group than usual. Food was cooked to order and drinks kept flowing with minimal interruption. Overall a good performance.. VERDICT If you are on a night out in the Piccadilly area and are looking for a quality steak and Hawksmoor Air Street is fully booked, then we recommend Mash. With steaks scoring just under 8, alongside strong scores for sides and ambience, you will not be disappointed, except maybe when it came time to settle the bill.
