Whilst in keeping with our current quest of finding ‘hidden gems’ we headed off to Sydney’s Inner Western suburb of Balmain to our chosen restaurant DarlinGreen.
Named after William Balmain a surgeon on the first fleet, this Sydney suburb is all heritage with architecturally significant buildings, landmarks and full of history making events.
Balmain is all about village lifestyle, water views and with Sydney’s CBD only 6kms away or a quick ferry trip or bus ride, this Inner Western suburb is a popular place to live and visit.
Upon arrival we were met by Ali our waitress for the evening and she quickly had us organised and seated. First impressions were that DarlinGreen with its subtly sophisticated and minimalistic interior created a warm and relaxed environment.
This event was dedicated a ‘man or mouse’ evening with all 12 Steakboyz prepared to take on the 1kg Tomahawk! Another big plus for the evening was DarlinGreen offers a BYO wine option so our resident sommelier made the call early, the vintage of the wine needed to be at a minimum 10 years old..
As mentioned with all 12 boyz ordering the 1kg grass-fed Angus rib eye tomahawk from Byron Bay, Patrick the owner and chef was up against it to deliver, yet deliver he did! Perfectly cooked with the exception of the last 4 delivered to the table, some of the comments here were that they were just slightly overdone. Acknowledging the challenge Patrick had on his hands, it was ultimately the high overall score that determined the quality of the steak was excellent.
Also the quality of the sides ordered, chat potatoes, Brussel sprouts and pumpkin salad were rated as the highest we have experienced to date, well done Patrick!
Ali our waitress was attentive, organised and looked after us efficiently all evening. It was also great to meet and chat with Patrick over a whiskey post meal.
Fantastic food at incredible value made for a great night out.. hidden gem found!
