A dimly lit, basement space in Greenwich Village would host the latest Steakboyz New York evening. The night would be punctuated by a deviation away from the usual communal food sharing template which had been a feature at earlier events. Tonight each Steakboy would be able to order his own steak. The jury is out as to whether this will be a one-off or more commonplace going forward, but for this evening most members agreed it was a nice change.
Perhaps the best way to sum up the experience would be giving it one thumbs up from the group. Expectations were relatively high given the establishment and its reputation and for the most part the Steakboyz would say it was OK. Not bad, not great, but just OK. A good variety of steak cuts were ordered across the table, and the average rating of 8.0 demonstrates that the house got this part of the meal right. So too the sides, with special mention of the creamed corn, a dish not previously ordered at any other establishment so far this year. A strong average rating of 4.1 making Strip House a contender for Steakboyz end of year awards in this category. But the sour note would be played by the house in seating us downstairs, with some members complaining this amounted to being treated as frat boys. Certainly not what was expected given the group’s growing prestige. A point that will not be forgotten in future Steakboyz outings.
