Located along the world renowned sunset strip of Camps Bay, The Butcher Restaurant has been going since 2015. The Camps Bay Strip is probably an area that most Capetonians steer clear of during the busy summer months as tourists flock in from all locations. In our quest to sample all the steak houses in Cape Town we thought a winter visit to this location was a good time to go and see what they had to offer.
Ambiance Camps Bay can be a lonely place in winter but even still the venue does not take advantage of its surroundings. This is probably the restaurant’s biggest downfall and could probably make more of an effort to keep up with the Camps Bay scene. Food Our evening started with a good selection of starters including chicken livers, trinchado and calamari tubes. The chicken livers stood out and were well appreciated by the SteakBoyz. The steaks received mixed reviews and while there was a very good price on the Prime Rib it was felt that the other steaks offered better value and received higher reviews. The T-bone received excellent reviews, with the fillet coming through as the next best, but sadly the Prime rib was not very well rated. Service From the very first phone call the team was extremely welcoming and made a huge effort to accommodate us. The service was outstanding and we were very well looked after. The staff stayed well past their usual closing time without blinking an eye. Verdict One would expect a little more effort to be put into the décor and to create an ambiance that was better suited to the location; it is fair to say however that the location is probably the biggest driver of feet through the door. The food however - is reasonably priced and offers some great winter specials.
