So traditional dictates that we celebrate the end of year by hosting the year’s final steak night at the restaurant which scored the highest reviews.

Carne was our unanimous winner.




The early birds begun the evening with some lagers at the bar (they have Jack Black on tap) to wait for the rest of the boys to arrive.

As always, the waiter brought the platter of meats to the table and explained what was on offer. The 1.2kg La Fiorentina T-bone triggered the usual “oohs  and aahs”, followed by the usual quick haggling to find a keen partner to share. You don’t want to be that guy; sans mate to share that monster plate of tasty beef.

Carne always produce exceptional quality beef. As such, the meat is served without sauce or basting, usually just a selection of mustards on the table. This is the way it should be, as you can more fully appreciate the quality of the meat.

We had a selection of cuts for dinner; the T-bone being a popular choice again. The steaks all received good reviews, but the fries were bad this time. The service too, was not as slick and professional as usual.

Carne can be a bit on the expensive side if you order 2-3 courses. But – we are consummate carnnoisseurs; meat and drink thank you very much. So, the bill is not too exorbitant.

So Carne was a bit under cooked this time – not exactly delivering the final hoorah we’d hoped for.

Keep up the good work; we might just be back next year.

Value:    7.4 (Not the cheapest; let down by sides and service. Still worth it)
